Walk a Mile in my Shoes
When we think about cancer or heart disease, we don’t wait years to treat them. We begin with prevention. So why don’t we do the same for individuals dealing with mental illness? It’s time to change the conversation.
The premise behind Walk a Mile in My Shoes is to encourage people to help to break down the stigmas associated with mental illnesses—to take a look and “walk a mile” so to speak in someone else’s shoes. Our hope is that, one day, mental health will have the same recognition and support as other common medical conditions such as heart disease or breast cancer.
The annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes sale event benefitting Ozark Guidance will be held May 15-16 at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Springdale. Friday evening, May 15 is a ticketed Preview Party pairing fine chocolates, wine, and cheese along with the best selection of shoes and handbags. A limited number of tickets are available for $25 each and can be purchased here.
The public sale starts at 8am Saturday, May 16, no tickets needed. Women’s, men’s, and children’s shoes along with handbags will be sold for $5-20. Boutiques will be set up in the sale area and participants can enjoy lunch in the parking lot Grub Hub from area food trucks with a portion of sales benefitting Ozark Guidance.
