Walk a Mile in my Shoes
You’ve likely heard the old saying “walk a mile in their shoes.” Well that’s what we ask folks to do--to stop and realize that mental health challenges are much more common than they think. 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children face mental health challenges every year. Issues don't discrimenate--moms, dads, kids, co-workers, friends, and neighbors all face mental health issues.
Our Walk a Mile in My Shoes event is a sale of new and clean nearly new shoes and handbags collected from closets and stores across the area. We sell these items for $5-20 each to raise money for the Ozark Guidance Foundation supporting our programs and services.
This year we’ve moved it to May to help celebrate Mental Health Month, a perfect time to highlight what we do and why we do it. Walk a Mile in My Shoes will be held May 15 & 16 at the Holiday Inn & Convention Center. Friday, May 15 is a ticketed evening Preview Party that allows ticket holders early access to the sale and best selection. Preview Party tickets will be sold online for $25 each. The public sale follows Saturday, May 16, no tickets necessary.
We all have those great shoes in our closets that we just HAD to have. Then when we actually tried to wear them they hurt, they pinched, we might have slipped (oops!), and we never wore them again. Or maybe those shoes or handbags that matched one outfit or special occasion? That doesn’t mean they’re not right for somebody else to buy at Walk a Mile and support the Ozark Guidance Foundation!
